Scott's Story
On March 2nd I fell on my knees and ask God for help. I was a 58 year old man whose life was totally out of control. I was so addicted to drugs that I was desperate for help, so desperate I would do anything to change my life. The next day I was admitted into Baptist Hospital in Knoxville, TN for detox. There I heard about New Beginnings in Dryden, VA.
On March 7th I arrived at New Beginnings. I hoped and prayed that someone there could help me. Little did I know just how much my life would change. I began attending group sessions and one on one sessions where I learned that I had the disease of addiction. I did not really want to hear that but eventually I accepted the fact. I was taught ways to fight my addiction, I also learned that many other people had the same disease. Knowing that kept me from feeling alone. Daily I was taught how to live with my addiction and still have a happy and productive life. During that period, I began to attend St. Charles Church of the Living God where I began to worship God and allow Him to guide me in everyday life. My connection with God has made me happier and stringer than I ever dreamed possible.
On September 7th I will celebrate 18 months clean. Oh yes, I am now a member of the staff at New Beginnings. I now plan to help other addicts with the knowledge that I have received. I can honestly say that God brought me here and with the help of Larry Lavender and staff at New Beginnings I am living a life that can only be referred to as a Miracle.
